CARLSON; JEAN BARBARA
Passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side, on Sunday, June 5, 2016. Beloved wife of 56 years to Frank. Loving mother of Chris (Diane Jensen), Carla Millar, and Andy (Kelly MacDonald). She will be dearly missed by grandchildren, Mitchell Carlson, and William and Sarah Millar, and Alex, Taylor and Kaelan Carlson. Dear sister of the late Alistair McKenzie, fondly remembered by nephew Neill McKenzie. Born in London, England, she spent her youth enjoying ballet dancing and horse back riding along the commons and beaches in the south of England. World War ll brought her journalist father, William McKenzie, to North Africa and saw Jean and the rest of her family evacuated to Scotland. Her father’s journalism career fuelled Jean’s lifelong love of travelling, history, reading and writing as they visited many countries in Europe and gave her the opportunity to attend finishing school in Switzerland followed by a career in modelling at the film studios in London. Later, while armed with a certificate in secretarial studies, Jean came to Canada in 1956 to work with a Greek Shipping company. It is here that she met her life long soulmate and love of her life, Frank, who was a pilot in the RCAF. His flying career brought the two of them and eventually a trio of children, to both coasts in Canada and many areas in between before finally settling in the Ottawa area. She will be remembered for her fabulous sense of humour, love of family and friends and an insatiable appetite for the arts.
Friends are invited to visit at:
Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery
3700 Prince of Wales Drive
613-692-1211
On Monday, June 13, from 11:00 am until the time to Celebrate her life at 1:00 pm in the Chapel.
