<div itemprop="description">Karen passed away surrounded by family on August 22, 2014 at the age of 57, almost two years after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She will be profoundly missed by her husband of 30 years, John Comba, their two daughters, Wendy (Dan Armstrong) and Rachel (Mathieu C&ocirc;t&eacute;), her mother, Beverley Deterding of Sarasota, Florida, and her two brothers, Rick (Rita Perdok) and Michael (Maureen Griffin). She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Comba, sister-in-law Dawn Comba, nephew Mazdak Karimi (Andie Campbell), nieces Raha Karimi and Rachel Anne Baker, and great niece Azimeh Karimi. She is predeceased by her loving father, Maximilian Deterding. Karen would like us to thank her wide circle of friends who were very supportive to her and her family over the past couple of years. She will be missed deeply by these friends including those from Carleton University, the Girls Weekend group, the Parkwood Hills dinner group, the coffee club ladies, her cross stitch friends, and her friends from Kamp Kanawana. Karen&rsquo;s knowledge of and interest in Broadway musicals, professional tennis, movies, books, music, politics, football and the stock market were second to none. She was very involved in the local community volunteering in the schools and organizing soccer and was most proud of her two daughters. Karen&rsquo;s knowledge, wit, generosity and smile will be missed by all who knew her. The family would also like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff on the 7th floor at the Ottawa General Cancer Centre, Carefor Health &amp; Community Services and the May Court Hospice. Thank you also to Dr. Duchesne, Dr. Goodwin and Dr. Fitzgibbons for their professional and compassionate care.</div>
