COOPER, Kenneth Herbert

1924 – 2016

Passed away peacefully, at the Ottawa General Hospital, on April 12, 2016, at the age of 91.

Loving spouse of Elizabeth Cooper for 70 years.

Devoted father of Kenneth Bradbury Cooper (Lyne Fournier) and Lynn Cooper-Pagé (Robin Pagé).

Cherished grandfather of Cassie, Krysten and Emily Cooper, Lilianne and Stefan Pagé, and Eric and Steve Villeneuve.

Proud great-grandfather of Lizzie Cooper, Lara and Christopher Forbes of Glenroathes Scotland, and Pailyn and Jocelyn Book of Burlington, Ontario.

Pre-deceased by his brother, Joseph Alan Cooper (Helena Rena).

Ken is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, having served in the Second World War as a Flying Officer, Wireless Air Gunner from 1943-1945 and in peacetime from 1948 – 1961. He resigned with a final rank of Flight Lieutenant –Telecommunications. For the next 20 years, Ken served in the Federal Public Service.

An avid outdoorsman, Ken especially enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips with friends in “the boonies”. He served as President of Aylmer Rod & Gun Club and was an avid member of Fly Fishers Ottawa.

More recently, as a resident of The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, Ken discovered his latent artistic talents through painting, and expressed himself musically through his involvement in the Health Centre’s choir. He was often called upon to give solo performances. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends at the Centre, including the feathered ones whom he fed daily.

The family would like to thank all members of the Perley and Rideau Health Care Team for their exceptional care, and would encourage charitable gifts in Ken’s memory to the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Care Centre Foundation. Flowers may be sent to the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Care Centre Reception Desk at 1750 Russell Road, Ottawa.
