Margaret Waterhouse
August 12, 1942 - February 17, 2016
WATERHOUSE, Margaret of Ottawa, died peacefully from cancer on February 17, 2016 at age 73 at the Hospice at May Court, with her family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Neil Waterhouse, cherished mother of Julie (Ron), sister of the late Josette Atkins (Alan), aunt to Andrew, Helen and Nicole, and dear friend to the Fisher family.
Margaret was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England on August 12, 1942 to John and Kathleen Crowther. After attending teacher’s college in the UK, Margaret taught there for several years before accompanying Neil to establish a life in Canada in 1967. After raising her daughter, Margaret returned to the workforce in a varied career that encompassed book-selling to managing a print shop.
Margaret loved socializing. She was a great listener, put people at ease, and was good friend to many who felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings with her.
She was the primary researcher and custodian of the family history, having spent countless hours poring over microfiche, and later, internet records, to piece together stories and relationships.
Special thanks to Dr. Gertler and Dr. Bright, as well as to the many kind people at ROSSS, the CCAC, and the May Court, and all her Manotick friends, for the love and care they showed to Margaret.
A Celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on 2pm, Saturday March 5th at
Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery,
3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa
(613) 692-1211.
Flowers welcome (no wreaths, please). Should friends desire, donations in memory of Margaret may be sent to the Cancer Centre of the Ottawa General Hospital, or to the Hospice at May Court.
