Susan Wright
October 29, 1953 - July 19, 2016
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Joy Wright (née Bodley), too young at age 62, on July 19, 2016. Susan passed away peacefully after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer which she fought with uncommon grace and courage. She was surrounded by her loving family and her beloved new kitten, Pica, who shared her hospice bed for the last week. After these words were said to her, "Not just me; everyone loves you", her last words were "I know". With that perfect thought in her mind, she gently left us.
Susan is survived by her husband Bradley, her three children, Brennan, Heather (Nick), and Emily (Matt), her father Charles Bodley, her sister Karen D'Arcy (Bob), her father-in-law Stuart (Meb), her sister-in-law Sheryl Mercer (Malcolm), her nieces Danielle, Catherine, and Caroline, her nephew Ryan, many cousins, and her beloved grandchildren Charlotte, Lillian, and Evelyn who never failed to light up her life. Susan was predeceased by her mother Ruthe Bodley, and her mother-in-law Joann Wright.
Susan was a long-time legal secretary and the embodiment of calm, consideration and competence no matter how busy the day. She was passionate about antiques, crystal, graceful artwork, horses, and pets. She and Bradley met when she broke her wrist skating at Trent University and he took her to the hospital. Little did they know that this would lead to so much happiness. We will miss her wonderful smile, bright blue eyes, warmth, decency, and the deep love she shared with her family and friends.
Respects may be paid on Sunday, July 24, from 1pm to 3pm at the Capital Funeral Home, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K2C 3H1. Donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Ottawa General Cancer Clinic and the Elizabeth Bruyere Hospice for their incredible care and devotion to their work, Sarah, Joy, John and John, and the many other people who helped her, visited her, or asked about her over the past 2 1/2 years. They were a great comfort to her and her family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
