On August 15th at 3:06 am the world lost one of the most amazing, brilliant, tough, brave and loving women that I have ever known and I lost my beautiful Mother.

Mom was born on July 28, 1931 in what is now Pakistan. She and her family escaped from the riots when Pakistan and India separated. As a young woman she did not follow traditional rules and went to Agra Medical College where she was a part of the institution’s first class to graduate female physicians. During this time she met my Father and they fell in love at first sight. They would go on to court each other on the grounds of the Taj Mahal, a fitting monument to the depth of their relationship. They married by choice, not by arrangement and went to England to continue their medical educations. While 6 months pregnant with my brother, Mom and Dad and his younger brother camped their way around Europe. After completing their medical training, they went to Kampala, Uganda and practiced medicine there. One of Mom’s patients was a young Idi Amin; if only she'd known... When he was coming to power, Mom and Dad escaped to England and then finally to Canada.

My Mom was an amazing woman. This is only a tidbit of the fantastic life she led. She is loved by so many people around the world and is now reunited with the love of her life. Mom and Dad were married for 62 years and together for 65 years. This past couple of years she has missed him terribly.

In her 85 years, Mom was the devoted mother of Tej and Namita, cherished grandmother of Trystan, Aanya and Peyton, and the beloved sister of many. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends from all over the world.

We are having prayer services and a meal at our temple at Gurdwara Sahib-Ottawa Sikh, 25 Gurdwara Rd. on Wednesday, August 17th at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome. Hope you can join us to say goodbye to Mom.

Namita, Donald, Trystan and Peyton
