Belair, Kieran James Kennedy

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved son, brother, cousin, nephew, grandson and friend, Kieran Belair.

Kieran, our gentle giant, passed away suddenly and without warning in his sleep in the wee hours of Tuesday, April 18, at the age of 18 years. He had gone to bed that night looking forward to his lacrosse tournament the next day, excited about his upcoming graduation from high school and happy about taking his sweetheart Caroline to the prom. Unbeknownst to all those who loved him dearly, at some point during the night he slipped away.

Kieran’s passing is a devastating loss for his mom Tiffany, his dad Jamie and his best friend and older brother, Toren. He was loved fiercely and will be sorely missed by his extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles, his grandfather, and his many friends, teammates, coworkers, teachers and coaches.

All those who were lucky enough to know Kieran will remember his big smile, his happiness, his gentle demeanour, his sense of humour, his unwavering loyalty, his bear hugs and his compassion for others. He was a natural leader and always took the time to comfort someone who was hurting, reassure someone who needed reassuring and encourage someone who needed encouraging. He was wise beyond his years.

Kieran was a student at St. FX high school in Riverside South and throughout his high school years played football and lacrosse. He was an exceptional player, with his size, athleticism and his commitment to the team over himself. Kieran also played volleyball at the school and was the Assistant Coach each year to the Junior Grade 7/8 volleyball team. He was an accomplished snowboarder and loved water sports. Many a vacation was spent with his parents and extended family enjoying the outdoors.

Kieran did well in his studies and had been accepted to Carleton University in Ottawa and was considering whether to go to school right away or to work for a year. For the past few years he had worked part-time in the Riverside South community and most recently, he was employed by AMPED, a local sports facility where he was loved by staff and customers alike.

Most of all, Kieran was a loving son, a caring brother, a trusted friend, and an amazing force in the lives of all those close to him. He made friends wherever he went. He loved his family deeply and he was the joy of his parents and brother, and extended family.

He was taken from us too soon. Heavy hearts remain. He will be forever loved and missed.

We have received many tributes to Kieran from family, friends, teammates, coaches, Kieran’s school and the community. Thank you everyone for your beautiful words.

Visitations for Kieran will be held at the Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, at the following times: Saturday, April 22 6-9 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

The Funeral Service for Kieran will be held at the Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery on Monday, April 24, at 1:00 p.m.
