<div itemprop="description">CALLUM, Viola “Irene”<br>(Nee Meier)<br>Feb. 13, 1911-Nov. 13, 2016<br>PEACEFULLY ON Sunday, November 13th, 2016 at the age of 105 years. Eldest of 9 siblings, born in Luseland, Saskatchewan to homesteaders Frederick Meier and Katherine (Nee Rutt).<br>Teacher by profession, world traveler in her retirement, seamstress, cook and baker par excellence.<br>She married her childhood sweetheart Donald Callum in 1940 and moved to Kingston. Proud mother to Robert “Bert” James (Beryl) and Lila Jean (Victor) Robinson. Adored grandmother of 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. <br>She remarried Lorne Thomas in 1979 which led to 10 years of exploring and travelling the world. <br>Irene’s door was always open to her many friends as well as the Eastern Star of which she was a life member and to the Masons. She was a strong willed and independent woman.<br>The family wishes to thank the staff at Amica, Laurier Manor and Madonna Nursing Home for their understanding and excellent care. <br>A private family interment will take place at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Kingston, Ont., prior to a reception for family and friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at the Tompkins Funeral Home, 435 Davis Drive (Centennial at Taylor-Kidd) in Kingston, Ont.<br>For those wishing, In Memoriam donations to the charity of choice are greatly appreciated.
