It is with profound sadness and bittersweet relief that we announce the passing of Frances Allen in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 25th, 2015 at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa. Predeceased by her son Christopher Allen, father Geoffrey Gomery, mother Gwendolyn Gomery, sisters Margery (Smith) Gomery and Joanne (Goodyear) Gomery. She is survived by Gerald, her loving husband of 52 years, loyal son Stephen, dear daughter Jennifer and stalwart son-in-law Karl Johansen; granddaughter Erica Johansen (Jeremy Nelson), grandson Alexander Johansen, great grandson Noah Nelson and great granddaughter Kendra Nelson, along with many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Fran was born in Montreal, studied Journalism at the University of Kings College (Dalhousie), became a Life Member of Kin Canada, a long-time volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada and a former Board Member of Operation Come Home. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Community Care Access Centre and the doctors, nurses, volunteers and other caregivers at Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital with special appreciation to nurses Laura and Elise at Bruyère and nurse Derek of CCAC. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, August 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.at

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 930 Watson Street, Ottawa on Monday, August 31 at 11 a.m. followed by cremation. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held in the Carleton “A & B” Suites at Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery following the service at the church.
